Translation and adaptation of the song lyrics<\/h3>
<\/div>[vc_column_text]Inside our Song Translation and Adaptation page you can find all the adaptations\u00a0we have made so that all our musicals can be performed almost entirely in Catalan,\u00a0both the script of the dialogue and the lyrics of the songs.<\/p>\n

We would now like to share with you a bit about the process of adaptation that we\u00a0follow so that the songs, once translated, still preserve their original meaning.<\/p>\n

Translating songs is not as easy as it might seem. It’s not as simple as putting the\u00a0lyrics in to Google translate. This will never achieve the expected results since\u00a0Google literally translates the lyrics, but it doesn’t translate taking into account the\u00a0meaning of the words of the song. On top of this, in the translation of songs an\u00a0equally important factor is the music since the rhyme and the tonic syllable of the\u00a0original song must be taken into account. If not, we will never get close to the\u00a0original intention of the author.<\/p>\n

Translating songs is not the same as subtitling them. The right word for this task, I\u00a0think, is adapting<\/strong> song lyrics to another language.[\/vc_column_text]

I apply the following strategy for each of my song adaptations:<\/h3>

  1. Listen, listen, and listen to the song many, many times. Once I know the lyrics in\u00a0the original language almost by heart, I know I have it fully internalized and I can\u00a0start the adaptation process.<\/li>\n
  2. The next task is to translate the lyrics, for this you need to understand them and\u00a0capture the same meaning that the author gives it, and above all, preserve the\u00a0same context that he \/ she put it in. The latter is very difficult to do for songs on\u00a0their own, but if in musical theatre it is much easier since the context is given to us\u00a0in the plot of the musical.<\/li>\n
  3. The next step is to find the rhymes within the song like where they are and what\u00a0type they are. The tonic syllable of the rhyme is very important as it is sure to be\u00a0closely linked to the melody. The tonality of the rhyme is also very important since\u00a0it is not the same if a rhyme ends with \u201ci\u201d in the original song and you want to end it\u00a0with \u201co\u201d in the translated version because the key will clearly change. I would say\u00a0the latter is the most difficult to achieve, but it must be attempted<\/li>\n
  4. The next step is to sing the song. Yes\u2026 I know\u2026 Even if singing isn\u2019t your forte,\u00a0like me, it must be done to know if the new lyrics are easy or difficult to pronounce\u00a0once it is being interpreted. It has happened to me sometimes that once I am\u00a0satisfied with my adaptation, the singer has performed it and asked me for\u00a0modifications because they are not able to vocalize some syllables well.<\/li>\n
  5. Finally, it’s time to polish the lyrics. Maybe there’s a word you don’t like how it\u00a0sounds, or you might find a better synonym. It is also possible that some sentences\u00a0depart too much from original meaning and you want to find a better adaptation.\u00a0Here is the moment to make these final touches.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
