LA BELLA I LA BÈSTIA

Here we have the adaptation of the musical “The Beauty and the Beast”

Today we want to talk to you about the Musical of the Beauty and the Beast.

All the material we have is compiled, classified and corrected so it’s ready for you.

This musical has not been easy to make. Lots of scenes, lots of dancing, complex characterizations and pretty hard songs for the boys and girls. But the end result turned out really well! Here we will tell you how we got there.

If you have the enthusiasm and motivation to take on this challenge, go ahead!

Now all you need is the means to do it which we can offer you.

Any questions you may have leave them down below at the end of this post and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

How did we do it

Today we will talk about how we put together this musical with our boys and girls. The decision was not easy, because the project was very ambitious.

We decided that we would do the same musical for the three different age groups we have:

Ages 7-9, 10-11 and 12-13.

For each of them we had to adapt the script differently, reducing it according to the age of the group. Not only did we reduce scenes, but we also reduced the number of words in each “dialogue” especially for the littler ones.

We did the same with the songs. Some of the sung interventions were only done by the older ones. This occurred especially in the scene where Beauty and the Beast read the story of King Arthur from a book. In the original script, this scene is done on a musical basis which sometimes makes some of the actors sing part of the text. After seeing that it was too difficult for the little ones to match the text to the song in this way, we excluded it only for this age group.

Another very complicated scene was where Bella walks through the village singing the song Belle and different characters from the village take part. In the group of the little ones we recorded the intervention of the village to make it easier for the children to interpret and guide them (exemples aquí)

As you know many of the characters are very distinctive, with a very particular costume and makeup. This was one of the most motivating and exciting aspects for the little ones since they had to play characters who weren't human, rather, they were half human, half objects. The most interesting thing was to practice and rehearse the way of speaking, walking and gesturing with them in each of their interventions.

A very important part of the play was the costume design. Here is where the parents of the children helped us a lot by contributing with all their enthusiasm and virtuosity in the creation of all the costumes and also in part of the props.

Finally, I want to talk about the songs we created for this musical adapted to Catalan. Here is the list. We only did some of these songs for the older group. You will find samples of the audios of each song so that you can check out the adaptations to Catalan in this link

We will also include the lyrics to all the music needed for the performance:

You can also ask us for the drawings we used to project in each of the scenes (more than 10 drawings).

So, you will have all the material you need to be able to represent this play so you can focus on getting the children to learn and play their roles to the best of their abilities.

We will provide you with the rest of the material!

Remember that you have the following material available:
Lyrics of the songs in Catalan, script to perform adapted to the age you need, musical bases for each song, instrumental music to accompany some scenes, drawings to project as scenery and even all the songs sung in our representations so that you have a guide when you interpret them.

The script of Beauty and the Beast

Nearly every scene of the original play is included. We may have shortened a scene a little because it was not important for the general argument and reduced the script length which helps the children when memorizing.

The script of the characters is reduced enough so that they don’t have too much work memorizing since they also have to dance and sing.

The script is adapted for the three age groups discussed above. The number of pages ranges from 40 for the youngest to 61 for the oldest.

Below, I leave you with a small sample of the script. And here is a link to the page where you will find more information on the musical and test audios of the songs.

Ahh, I almost forgot!!! Do not hesitate to ask us any questions you may have through the comments in this post.
